The Race Against My Laptop Charger

When deadlines meet their toughest obstacle…

I don’t bring my laptop charger out with me.

It’s too much responsibility. I’ve lost it more than once.

The last time was in Minneapolis, at the Pantages Theatre. I was tour managing a band and had some work to do but little charge.

So I whipped out my trusty laptop charger. The one I bought the week prior, because I lost my other one somewhere on the bus…

I charged up, got my work done, and left the charger down in the greenroom while taking the rest of my stuff with me.

Things can move quick at a show. I knew better than to leave something important behind. But I did it anyway.

After the show, they pushed us out quick. Those damn union venues never want to pay overtime…

We rushed to pack up and get the hell out of there. We were so quick that I never went back to the greenroom, and my charger still lives there to this day.

Luckily, I found my other charger and all was good. But it was a great example of why I don’t take my charger many places.

Now I’m not touring anymore, but still taking my laptop away from home to write. Whether it’s the library, the coffeeshop, or somewhere else…
