The Main Benefit of Having a Fulfilling Job

Your free time is gravy

During some recent stretches of time off, I was able to write, edit, and publish my third book.

Unlike most jobs, I don’t get evenings and weekends off. I tour manage a band, meaning I’m on the road for a few weeks then come home with little responsibility.

That means days, sometimes even weeks, with a totally empty slate.

How much time I have off depends on the time of year. If its the beginning of the year, I am likely off for weeks with very little band responsibility on a daily basis.

Right now, we are gearing up to go on tour in Europe. I have a little over a week off to prepare.

We’ve been preparing for months, however. Aside from tying up some loose ends, much of this week will be me relaxing and enjoying some time with friends and family before I’m overseas for three weeks.

And golfing. Lots of golfing.

As the lead man in the band likes to say, “When we’re home, we’re home.”

Little work. Little stress. Save that for the road and enjoy some time off while you can.

It’s extremely rare to get this in a job. While time on the road can be stressful, it always feels nice to come home and know I won’t…
