The little country of Norway may be giving us a glimpse of the future: Tesla losing market share to Ford.

Home to about 5.4 million people, Norway may not strike people as a leading force in the automotive world. With electric vehicles, though, it has become an important testing ground thanks to the demand for battery-powered and hybrid vehicles. In May 2021, 60.4% of the new vehicles sold were EVs.

Of all new vehicles sold in the month, there became a new leader in the clubhouse: the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Mach-E made up nearly 10% of newly registered vehicles.

On the year, the Mach-E represents just 2.2% of sales. That puts it at 11th on Norway’s best-sellers list with the Toyota RAV4 hybrid leading the way.

The Mach-E is still well behind Tesla’s Model 3 sales for the year, but Ford is just getting started. May was the company’s first full month in Norway, delivering just 45 vehicles prior.
