GoFundMe Might Be the Best Healthcare Option We’ve Got
As shameful as it may feel, it crowdfunds healthcare in a way taxes don’t
Not long ago, I rolled up to a hospital bed in a wheelchair.
I felt sick. I had cellulitis in my ankle and could barely walk. But this day wasn’t about me at all.
My friend was just diagnosed with cancer. They told him he had days to live. That was a few months ago now.
“They don’t talk like that here.”
He was getting chemo at Ohio State University. He received his diagnosis in South Carolina. Seems like they didn’t care much if he stayed around.
This is a friend I made last March. I was tour managing Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, and this fella named Nat Myers was gonna open some shows for us.
Didn’t know much about the dude, but I checked his Instagram. Helluva writer he was.
We first met in Kent, Ohio. He walked up to stage with a guitar in one hand and an amp in the other.
Quickly he talked about Rev and the impact he’s had on his career. How he tried to open for him years prior but wasn’t ready for that yet. Now he was ready, and it was happening.
