Nearly five years in, I feel even more inspired to milk Medium for all it has

After nearly five years of publishing on Medium, I have reached a pretty cool benchmark: 150 published articles!

My Medium journey has been one of major inconsistency. Here is the breakdown of the 150 articles published by year of publishing:

  • 11 in 2016
  • 26 in 2017
  • 16 in 2018
  • 0 in 2019
  • 69 in 2020
  • 28 in 2021

That timeline perfectly represents the peaks and valleys of writing motivation I have had since I began writing as a freshman in high school. When I first published on Medium in 2016, I was a freshman at a local community college. …

Our survival instincts seek support through receiving, but we need to give to thrive

The importance of giving over receiving
Photo by Ben White on Unsplash

It is incredible how self-centered the human mind is.

The mind is primarily focused on a few things before anything else: food, water, and shelter. After that, it seeks security, then love (see Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs).

The mind is not selfish for wanting these things. These things are necessary for our survival and well-being. After that, however, is where it gets too needy.

When we are set with those prerequisites, we start to get greedy. We want more: more money, more friends, more respect, more attention, more stuff. …

With values soaring to the moon, card collectors are starting to get violent

Photo by Thimo Pedersen on Unsplash

In December 2020, a rare Charizard Pokémon card sold for $360,000. Early in 2021, a Michael Jordan rookie card sold for $215,000. Weeks later, the same card sold for $738,000.

During the pandemic last year, with people locked inside and looking for something to flip the mood, quarantiners turned to nostalgia and began collecting trading cards. Pokémon cards, basketball cards, baseball cards, and more.

Now the market is flaming hot.

Rare cards selling for a high price is not a phenomenon unique to 2020. In 2018, a rare Mike Trout baseball card sold for $400,000. Two years later, its market…

With the Mustang Mach-E on the streets, consumers are finding better alternatives to Tesla

The little country of Norway may be giving us a glimpse of the future: Tesla losing market share to Ford.

Home to about 5.4 million people, Norway may not strike people as a leading force in the automotive world. With electric vehicles, though, it has become an important testing ground thanks to the demand for battery-powered and hybrid vehicles. In May 2021, 60.4% of the new vehicles sold were EVs.

Of all new vehicles sold in the month, there became a new leader in the clubhouse: the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Mach-E made up nearly 10% of newly registered vehicles.

Ford has grabbed the electric vehicle headlines as of late, revealing its F-150 Lightning and Lightning Pro, both expected to hit the streets by 2022. CEO Jim Farley thinks his company’s electric vehicle sales will make up a significant portion of overall sales within the next 10 years.

40%: The percentage of Ford’s global vehicle sales Farley expects to be electric by 2030. Farley also said that Ford can get its operating margin up to 8% by 2023 after years of hovering around 4%. This news excited investors, sending the company’s stock up over 6% intraday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture uses NASA’s satellites for many reasons, but their partnership entails more than that

With the rise of SpaceX in the space exploration arena, some may wonder, “What does NASA even do at this point?” Partnered with SpaceX, NASA is still involved in the next Moon landing mission and future Mars endeavors.

Part of the agency’s current mission, though, revolves around improving the efficiency of farming down here on Earth.

At the end of 2020, NASA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) “signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening their longstanding partnership on space-based assets benefitting life on Earth.”

Within this memorandum of understanding (MOU), the two federal agencies will have four…

Curating other people’s content and adding additional commentary can have just as great of an impact

When the term “creative” pops up, it scares people. People don’t believe they are creative and while they would love to make a living off of social media and the internet, they don’t believe they are capable.

The most successful content creators are usually the ones that can come up with interesting topics for videos, articles, or podcasts on their own. But there is another lane that fits in and has a demand: curation.

Content curation is essentially the practice of taking someone else’s work and adding value to it. …

Don’t feel bad if you struggle while going the hard route

Medium has never been just one thing. This is probably why it has survived (to this point) in an industry where the barrier to entry is strong. Medium is far from perfect, though, and has changed from what it originally intended to be for the worst.

In the early stages, Medium seemed to be geared towards being an expanded version of Twitter. After all, its founder Ev Williams was involved in the creation of Twitter. Early Medium was a place for stories of any kind with no editorial barrier. …

Bitcoin had its big run. Now it’s Dogecoin’s turn.

Bitcoin made some people millionaires and others billionaires. It allowed some people to quit their jobs and never have to worry about money again. For those that missed out, though, finding the next crypto giant is the goal.

That’s why one TikToker believes that Elon Musk has turned against Bitcoin.

Musk announced that Tesla would be suspending Bitcoin transactions for its business and would also not purchase any more of the cryptocurrency. Musk’s reasoning didn’t really add up.

Musk caused further anger inside the Bitcoin community when he implied Tesla would dump its $1.5 billion Bitcoin investment by next quarter…

It will teach you a valuable lesson, though

Man tying his shoes during a run

It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the process. Waking up between 5 and 5:30 a.m., jumping out of bed, and tying my running shoes on. It was wet and chilly sometimes, but I didn’t care. It was quiet, and that’s what I needed.

That early in the morning, most people are eating breakfast and preparing for their day or sleeping. The roads were empty and houses were dark. I felt like I was working harder than everyone.

Coming off the summer I had, I needed that ego boost. …
